Biography

Known by many as one of the top criminal law attorneys in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Michael Antoon is a highly skilled attorney with years of court room experience in criminal and civil matters. He is known for his compassion for his clients, meticulous attention to detail, and affable yet zealous approach to representing his clients.

In his criminal practice, Michael has taken on some of the toughest defense cases with success. He has handled almost all categories of criminal cases both misdemeanor and felony, and routinely appears in both state and federal courts. From misdemeanors to murder, Michael has shown the ability to examine the case meticulously, and to apply favorable aspects of the facts and law to his client’s favor. Michael evaluates and exploits all available angles and avenues to protect his clients and promote their interests. In a criminal case, this includes thoroughly investigating to identify all factual weaknesses in the Government’s case as well as procedural and constitutional violations of his client’s rights. This especially includes investigating complainants, “victims”, and witnesses to determine if they have a history of dishonesty or motive to lie. Time and again, Michael has proven that resourcefulness and a thorough investigation is key to being fully prepared for any case and ultimately to a successful trial practice. Aside from just evaluating tactical angles, Michael encourages and coaches his clients to mitigate and present themselves to prosecutors and judges in a more positive light. This might include obtaining steady employment, substance abuse rehabilitation, mental health treatment, etc.

Michael handles his civil and personal injury cases with the same approach. Michael fights to make his clients whole after being injured or suffering loss because of the negligent or intentional acts of another. To that end, he not only works with his clients to build the factual and legal foundations of their case, but he also carefully coaches his clients to avoid frivolous defenses and claims often employed by insurance companies to avoid making things right. And just as in criminal cases, a thorough investigation, resourcefulness, finesse during negotiations, and boldness in the courtroom are all key.

No matter the type of case, Michael is a people person who establishes a rapport with all his clients and uses this rapport to help him discover, understand, and promote the client’s needs and concerns. Clients are comfortable placing their trust in him knowing that they have a zealous advocate who also cares about them and their needs. This personable approach also often paves a path to success with opposing counsel and parties while avoiding unnecessary litigation, which is almost always more costly, prolonged, and ultimately stressful for the client. That said, Michael is always ready to switch gears when things have to be done the hard way.

Michael has been selected each year as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers from 2017-2024.

Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 2007 and his Juris Doctor from Southern University Law School in 2010. He is certified to practice in all Louisiana State Courts, the Western District Federal Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Michael has been involved in several community organizations and activities. Michael is a former board member for the Southwest Louisiana Young Lawyers Board, the Lake Charles Pitbull Rescue and served as a member of the executive board of The Partnership for a Healthier Southwest Louisiana. Michael is a former member of Fusion Five, a young professional organization, and is a graduate of Leadership SWLA 2017, a year-long program offered through the SWLA Economic Development Alliance that is geared toward strengthening the leadership qualities of selected individuals and providing those leaders with information concerning regional problems and issues. Michael is former President of the Board of the Imperial Calcasieu Museum and former volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana.
