Guiding You Through The Stepparent Adoption Process
Adoption is one of the most positive components of any family law practice. It is always nice when a loving stepparent decides to take on the legal responsibilities of caring for a child. However, the stepparent adoption process can be complicated and skilled legal guidance is essential to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.
At Fuerst, Carrier & Ogden, in Lake Charles, our attorneys are committed to helping people with all types of family legal issues. To learn more about how we can help with adopting a stepchild, call our lawyers at 337-436-3332.
The biggest issue that most people face when it comes to adoption involves the termination of parental rights. In other words, the noncustodial parent must either voluntarily or under court order give up his or her rights with regard to the child. In many cases, a parent will realize that a stepparent adoption is the right thing to do and will voluntarily agree to a termination of parental rights. However, in some cases a parent will be reluctant to do so and will seek to do battle in court.
If a parent refuses to give up his or her rights, it is important that you have a strong legal advocate in your corner. The court will attempt to find a solution that is in the best interests of the child. Our attorneys are committed to doing what is best for the child as well, which is why we will serve as the strong advocates you need in this type of situation.
